Back in Man-o-War, we met up with old friends from Lady Bug 3. Ed, Jim and Peter have come to return her to the states for serious reprovisioning before returning to the Bahamas after the holidays. We enjoy a spaghetti dinner with them aboard Lady Bug.

Wednesday/ Thursday, October 25 & 26, 2006

Just another trip from Man-o-War to Marsh Harbour and back. Heavy winds predicted for a few days so we had to make sure the beverage locker was stocked. (trip 13.2 nm)

Winds are 20- 25 knots and now with the weather prediction of winds to continue, Ed and Peter decide the keep the spirit of Keweloa alive so they plan a cocktail party aboard the abandoned boat promptly at 4:30 pm. Dave and Chrissey would be proud as we toasted to them back home in New Zealand.

Still stuck on the mooring, Tom decided it was time to check the zinc on the prop shaft. Just some general maintenance. It was in desperate need of changing as it crumbled in his hands. It was quite tricky holding onto all the things he needed underwater but as a pro he changed it just like nothing.

Monday, October 30 - Wednesday, November 8, 2006

The winds still haven’t let up. In fact they have increased from 20-25 knots to 25-35 knots with higher gusts. Not stormy but just extremely windy 24/7. The winds have even made the somewhat protected Sea of Abaco treacherous. So rough that the Guana Freight barge capsized on its way from Marsh Harbour to Baker’s Bay on Guana Cay. The boat sank, crew rescued and the barge was raised within a few hours and was back in business within a few days.

We are glad to be on the mooring but boredom is setting in, we’re all ready to move and the time change has not been fun either. I guess there are a few inconveniences in paradise. The temperatures are still highs in the low 80’s and lows in the mid 70’s. We really shouldn’t complain. We do have company in Eastern Harbor - Ola B (Mark & Joan) and Christian (Jimmy, Donna & golden retriever, Annie). A lot of time is spent reading, working on sea glass art or going ashore to stretch the legs.

Tom cleaned the bottom of Escape and polished up the stainless. The water has cooled off but still in the mid to upper 70’s. Not too bad yet but alot cooler from the upper 80’s this summer and yes, Tom is still going in. Difficult to believe but true!

Babette hosts the morning Abaco Cruisers Net while Barometer Bob and Pattie are in the states.
